Basic WebSite Layout

Your Home Page

Your Home Page is an extension of you. It should contain who you are, your direction, and what you have to offer.......

Your Catalog

At MediaSpecialties we like to keep it simple. We want to give your perspective customers enough information about your product and not add anything to the Catalog Web Page that is a distraction.
We have developed a very simple system that will allow your customers to navigate thru your catalog with ease.

First, your product line is divided up into main categories. Each category is linked to a Catalog Page containing information on those specific products. Each product listing contains a 1/4 screen or 'Thumbnail' image of the product and a basic description. We suggest that you limit your Catalog Page to 6 items. This saves on download time and can be configured to fit on a printed page. If you have more items for that category, you just add another Catalog Page.
Each Catalog Page has a return link to your Home Page and each successive Catalog Page has a link back to the Previous Catalog Page. You can have as many Catalog Pages as you need to cover your entire inventory. If you wish, an Index or Directory Page can be inserted between your Home Page and your Catalog Pages. A link on your Home Page could then say, "Feel Free To Browse Our Extensive Catalog".

Description Pages

As you surf the Internet you will notice that many WebCatalogs allow you to 'Click on the Small Picture to get a Bigger Picture'. Most of these sites just dump the picture on the screen with no information or links to anywhere. We figure that this is the most important place in your catalog. If perspective customers select an item on your Catalog Page, and want to see more, then they are interested. Give them everything they need to purchase.

If you 'Click' on the small picture of an item on your Catalog Page, you will activate a link to a Description Page for that item. In our catalog design each picture on the Catalog Page has one of these links.
The Description Page contains a Larger picture, (in some cases multiple pictures) and a complete description of that catalog item. The information on how the customer can contact you is included at the bottom of each page. This allows the customer to contact you via EMail or phone without leaving the page. It is difficult to remember everything when you have to browse around to find an order form.
Each Description page has links back to its Catalog Page.

Variations

Any combination of Catalog/Description Pages will work. Subcategory Directories can be added to a Catalog Page generating a whole Subcatalog. We have built Catalog Pages with 18 basic descriptions and no pictures, with each description linked to its own Description Page.

If your inventory is very large, you may want to consider a Client Server. But, that's another story.

Your Home Page contains links to the various Categories that your product(s) fits into. These Category names are linked to Catalog Pages which describe the items in each category.
