By now you should have made some progress with the Search Engine list. But, the search engine process is much easier than this next one.
A CrossLink is having your WebSite listed on another similar WebSite with a return link. (Clicking on the name of your site, as listed on their site, brings you to your site.) You then list their site on your site with a link that will bring you to them.
Rumor has it that "The One With The Most Links Wins".
For Antiques, Collectible or Music Links, use the directories supplied within this site as a springboard. For other subjects, begin to use those search engines that you have just linked to.
Begin visiting sites with the same subject or similar theme to yours. Look for those sites which have a 'Links' page. Sites with 'Links' pages will accept 'CrossLinks'.
Use the spreadsheet method to record the Site Name and its URL. I use the spreadsheet because trying to use the Netscape BookMark system can get a little cluttered.
Once you have found 25 Sites or better the process begins.
1) Go to the first site listing on your spreadsheet.
2) Find the site's Email Link and open it.
You will get a fresh Email form with the site's Email Address already listed.
3) Type "Request for CrossLink" into the Email Subject Box.
4) Type "Hello 'The WebSite's Name', at the begining of your message.
5) Go to your 'Press Release Texts' file and make a copy of your '50 Word Good Explanation'.
Add a line with your URL.
6) Skip a space then add 'Please advise on crosslink,'.
7) Skip a space then add your reply information. Name, Business Name, Site Name, & Email Address .
8) Cut and Paste the new Press Release into the Email Form.
When you have completed this you form should look similar to mine.

8) When you are happy with your message - Send It!!
9) Enter the date that you sent the message in your spreadsheet.
10) As you receive replies from your requests, save the Emails and mark the dates into your spreadsheet.
11) In a week or so, or when the reply states it, check back with that site's 'Links' page to see if you have been listed.
When you see your first listings it will be time to create your own 'Links' Page.
I call them 'Net Resources'.
Have fun mastering this process.
