Burg Klopp

Burg Klopp above Bingen

Klopp Castle was erected upon the foundations of a Roman fortress and in the Middle Ages was the seat of the bailiff of the Archbishop of Mainz. It was here that Emperor Henry IV was taken prisoner by his illegitimate son and subsequently forced to renounce the crown.

Open to the public daily.
