The castle, above the town Rheindiebach, served as a toll-house for the Palatine Electorate. In 1689, Furstenberg met with the same fate as many Rheinland castles and was soon merely ruins. Only remnants of the huge former ramparts and palace remain. Stretching majestically upwards, the 82-ft.-high tower seems, alone, to have been built for eternity. Not open to the public.
