Arenfels, near Bad Honningen, is one of those castles which came off worst through their conversion into psudo-Gothic residence. Gothic proper, Renaissance and baroque periods had afforded the castle (founded in 1260) fine architectural lines, which, however, after the conversion carried out last century by the Cologne church Zwirner, are hardly recognizable any more. Arenfels has been called "the castle of many windows". Not open to the public [Text taken from Castles On The Rhein] |
