Prologue They were chilly, rainy, overcast and foggy days around the week of December 7th, 1988, as I started a vacation tour with a visit to a software developer friend in Dusseldorf. We had a rented car and all we had to do was to show-up at Munich Airport in ten days for the flight home. With a new SVHS Video Camera in hand, we set out on a Castle Discovery Adventure. Our tour starts in Cologne and heads up the Rhein River thru Koblenz and to Mainz. (though the footage that I actually shot started at Koblenz and ended at Bingen. There are only so many hours in a day.) Three days in Heidelberg then east to, and up the Romantic Road to Schwangau, down through Munich to Salzburg. This WebSite is an attempt to merge my experience, snapshots from my video, a collection of archeivel images, and any contributions on the subject, into a useable historical piece about the region and its castles.
