The Gate to the Castle Garden at the western wall of the castle grounds. In front of the gate the baroque sentry-box (built by Carl Theodor). The road via the Klingenteich (also for cars), the old Schlossbergweg in which the Palatine barracks and some houses of the former mountain town still stand, and the steep, so-called Kruze Buckel (short hump), steps leading up from the Corn Market, meet in front of the gate. From there the Burgweg leads up along the north side of the castle via Karl's Redoubt to the castle: going up the Friesenbergweg and along the east side of the castle, the castle garden (formerly Hortus Palatinus) situated east of the castle, is reached. Difference in the altitude between town and castle approximately 330 feet.
