The Bridge over the Castle Moat

The Bridge House,
built by Ludwig V, served as an outwork of the Gate Tower, formerly reached by a drawbridge. Next to the driveway stood the small side gate for pedestrians; from the projecting oriel window the gatekeeper watched those coming in and out. At the beginning of the 19th century the collection of antiques belonging to the French nobleman Charles de Graimberg was kept in the upper storey. He was among those art-loving men who have won merit by preserving the ruins. His valuable collecting forms the foundation of the Palatine Museum.

The Bridge over the Castle Moat,
built by Ludwig V, rests on two powerful pillars. The original wooden roadway ended in a drawbridge, the size of which can still be seen by the rightangled rabbet of the Gate Tower. The bridge was roofed with half timbering; the solid roadway was first built in 1718.
