The Apothecary Tower (in the 17th century the apothecary was situated there), belonging to the older part of the castle precincts, occupies the middle of the eastern defence wall; protruding far out in the three-quarter circle groundplan, outer diameter 61 feet, the circular wall facing the foe 16 feet thick.
